March 4, 2001: My car parked along Gordon Pond Trail in the White Mountains
March 4, 2001: Shadows of trees falling across Gordon Pond Trail. There is about a half inch of fresh fluffy snow on top of an eighth of an inch of ice on top of about 2-3 feet of other snow. My snowshoes were very loud when crunching through the thin ice layer.

There is a road with traffic, on the other side of this fence, but today you can't see it because the snow has piled up on all of the wires that make up the fence.
